Warming in a Winter Wonderland

We’ve reached that weird part of winter. The part where it’s winter one day, and spring the next. As we’re warming in this winter wonderland, there’s a few tips that you need to address if you haven’t already; for winter and spring. In this blog post you will find some of these tips, and our hope is that they would be a resource to you as you brave the weather.

Important tips for winter:

  1. Change your filters: Changing your filters, as we’ve talked about before, can lead to better airflow and quality of air. A clean filter allows for the most optimum running of your HVAC unit, and prevents engine burnout.

  2. Calibrate your thermostats: This is often done by a trained technician, but you can calibrate your thermostat so that winter efficiency is maxed. Also, it’s a good idea to keep your home heated to a minimum of 68 degrees in the winter to help prevent pipes from freezing.

  3. Have a full inspection done: Connect with our team today to guarantee that your furnace, and surrounding HVAC systems are operating properly. With a quick inspection, our team can assess any necessary changes/fixes, saving you time, money, and the hassle of something potentially breaking.

Important planning tips for spring:

  1. Clear debris from your outside lines: In the winter, outside is outside, and most people aren’t outside much. Because of this, there may be debris collecting near your outside vents that you’re unaware of. A quick walk around the house to check vents can save a lot of hassle down the road with your HVAV systems.

  2. Evaluate your ductwork: If you can, check your ductwork for holes or leaks. Your ductwork plays a crucial role in the delivery of air (warm or cold) to your home. Any leaks or damages could cost you as much as 20% of your energy bill. Along with any leaks or holes, it’s also important to have the ducts cleaned every few years. This will clean the dirt, dust, or mold that collects in the ducts, providing your home with better air quality.

  3. Test your AC unit: Before the warm days of summer arrive, turn on your AC unit to test how it’s working. You don’t need to do this while it’s 10 degrees outside, but as the days get warmer, give it a quick test. This will prepare you for any fixes that may need to be made to the unit, prior to the humidity arriving.

As you enjoy (or cringe through) the rest of winter, remember, it’s important to be proactive rather than reactive. These simple tips will help you warm your way through a winter wonderland.
